    Generation No.2

    2. JOHN2 DOWNER (THOMAS1) was born October 06, 1745 in St Botolph Bishopsgate,
London, London, England. He married ELIZABETH BUTLER

    Notes for JOHN DOWNER:
At first it was thought that he settled in Lilesville, Anson County, NC about 1790. There was
no available evidence disputing this. It is known that he was married two times. The children
from his first marriage- settled in Northern Mississippi, Georgia, and Virginia. Two sons were
born from his second marriage. Macager, 1792, and Francis, 1790-1891, our progenitor.

The following is the opinion of James W. Petty, Accredited Genealogist, dated July 30, 2004.
Thomas DOWNER, Jr., and his brother John DOWNER, came to North Carolina prior to 1757, sons
of a merchant family of London and acquired land in what became Anson Co., North Carolina.
They may have come together, or younger brother John may have joined Thomas after 1760,
and they were listed together in tax records on 1763. Both were named in the wills of their
mother and brother in 1774 and 1773, both of which wills were written prior to Thomas's death
in 1774. Thomas had no family of his on and left his property to John DOWNER, without
    identifying their relationship.

Children of JOHN DOWNER and ELIZABETH BUTLER are:

    3.             i. FRANCIS3 DOWNER, b. 1790, Lilesville, NC; d. October 10, 1871, Anson Co, Nc.
