Charles “Pat” Downer
A memorial service for Charles pat Downer, formerly the superintendent of schools for Littlefield ISD, who died in Lubbock Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Lubbock. Pastor Chris Downer officiated, and internment will be in Texola, Okla., at a later date.

Downer was born April 15, 1929, in Texola, Okla., to the now late Thomas Burton Downer and Clara Rebecca Neely Downer, he grew up in Texola and graduated from Shamrock High School.

He Married Jean Taylor on Nov. 2, 1959, in Louisiana. He served with the 45th Infantry Division of the Oklahoma National Guard in Korea from late 1959 through early 1952.

He earned his BS degree from Oklahoma A&M, and later his Masters’ degree from the University of Texas at El Paso. He began a career in education in 1961, serving as teacher, coach and administrator in Sierra Blanca, Clint, Socorro and Littlefield School Districts. He was superintendent of Littlefield ISD from the fall of 1982 until he resigned in early summer of 1986. He retired in 1989 to Rocky, OK, and later moved to San Angelo and Lubbock.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; brothers, Ralph Downer, Warren Downer and Jack Downer; sisters, Janet Bruce Childers, Bernyl Downer and Wanda Callian; a grandson, Kyle Snelson: and great-grandson, Travis Bullock.

Surviving are his children. Debra and husband, Ed Lloyd of Lubbock, Deana Dean of San Angelo, Pat “Bo” and Wife, Terri Downer of Lubbock: six grand children, James Snelson, Jason Dean, Charles Pat “Trey” Downer 111, Paige Downer and Cassie Dean; six great-grandchildren. Charlie Bullock, Clint Braddock, Jordan Dean, Lale Dean, Mary Elizabeth nelson and Ruby Snelson; a sister-in-law, Betty Downer and many nieces and nephews.
