Subject: Indian Moccasins Pin

At times, Aunt Lizzie Goodwin came to live with Grandma Turner on the ranch at Ramon. Grandma's house was across the dirt road from our house. Some days Aunt Lizzie would ask me if I would like to go with her to pick up the mail at Ramon Store. The store was about four and a half miles down our dirt road to the Roswell/Vaughn highway and then another half mile to the store. This was always a wonderful trip for me. Our mailbox was a barrel balanced between some fence posts. But, inside the store was what made the trip exciting. There was a "pop" case filled with ice and coved with a lid and inside were all kinds of soft drinks. My favorite was Delaware Punch. My brother, Terry, and I were never allowed to ask for anything as that was " bad manners!!!" However, looking longingly at something seemed alright to me. We could always count on one pop apiece no matter what. There was another case, though, that had a glass top with all kinds of special things inside. This is where looking "longingly" came in handy at times. Aunt Lizzie was busy visiting with "B" and Lou Johnson, owners of the store; but, must have noticed my "longing look" at the Indian Moccasins Pin because as we were leaving she told the Johnsons to put those in a bag for me. I truly loved Aunt Lizzie whether she noticed my "longing looks" or not.
